With over a billion people in a country smaller than the continental United States,
there isn't a lot of unused land in India. Almost every piece of land is used for
farming or grazing, and in the steep terrain up north that meant vast arrays of
terraces. I wish I had a better picture of them, because some of the terraced
valleys were incredibly beautiful, but it's very hard to take pictures from inside
a moving bus and this was the best I could do. This doesn't really do it justice, but
imagine a whole valley full of emerald-green terraces like the ones on the hill here in
the foreground.
